Kathmandu: Radhika Shakya, spouse of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has released her autobiography, 'Karuna', detailing her life's journey, struggles, and achievements. The book was launched at a special event in Kathmandu, coinciding with the 37th marriage anniversary of PM Oli and Shakya.

The book was jointly released by CPN-UML’s Deputy Secretary General Pradeep Gyawali, noted writer Amar Neupane, and Buddhist priest Ani Choying Drolma, with Prime Minister Oli attending as the chief guest. Published by Panini Books, 'Karuna' captures Shakya’s life experiences—from childhood and education to her professional career and marriage to the political leader.

A Life Rooted in Compassion
Speaking at the event, Shakya shared that the book reflects her deep empathy for the poor, sick, and helpless, which shaped both her life and her marriage. She recalled how her journey with PM Oli was influenced by the very essence of ‘karuna’ (compassion).

"I am neither a writer nor a litterateur, but I used to jot down my thoughts. My marriage with the present Prime Minister was also shaped by this very compassion," she remarked. Shakya and PM Oli tied the knot on Falgun 10, 2044 BS (1988).

PM Oli’s Praise for the Book’s Authenticity
Prime Minister Oli praised 'Karuna' as a "pure and authentic" account of Shakya’s life, asserting that there was no fictional content in it. "I can confidently say the book is as original as 24-carat gold. No one can challenge its authenticity," he stated.

Oli also made a significant revelation about their residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur, saying that it was built entirely from Shakya’s earnings during her 33-year-long career at the Central Bank. "This house is the result of her hard work, and it has now been placed in the name of a trust," he clarified.

Referring to his critics, Oli addressed allegations about his financial status, emphasizing that he had dedicated his life to Nepal’s political struggle. "There are some forces undermining my journey, questioning how someone who once came out of jail with a pair of slippers is now the Prime Minister. Perhaps they want to be ruled by the crown," he said.

Reactions and Praise for ‘Karuna’
At the event, commentators highlighted the book's inspiring message of perseverance through hardships.

-CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali remarked that ‘Karuna’ serves as an inspiration for people facing difficulties in life.
-Ani Choying Drolma praised Shakya’s compassionate approach to life and writing.
-Writer Amar Neupane noted that the book provides insight into PM Oli’s confidence and determination, along with Shakya’s unwavering support.
-Expressing her emotions, Shakya dismissed negative rumors about her husband, stating that their lifestyle remains simple. "I am still receiving my pension, and I feel happiest when supporting the underprivileged. If needed, I am ready to present every financial detail of our income," she assured.

The book release ceremony concluded with felicitations to PM Oli and Radhika Shakya on their 37th wedding anniversary.
